Sometimes our children can get in the habit of seeking out our attention in very negative ways. Sometimes our children have a difficult time regulating their emotions. In order to make the best, longest lasting changes in our kids, it is vital to work with the parent/caregiver and child together so that the parent can take the tools home and use them on a regular basis. This is when change occurs. Using this specialized approach, we help parents and children find a new way of working together so everyone wins!
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. Clincians also report success using EMDR as treatment for panic attacks, disturbing memories, complicated grief, phobias, and sexual and/or physical abuse. EMDR seems to have a direct effect on the way that the brain processes information. Normal information processing is resumed, so following a successful EMDR session, a person no longer relives the images, sounds, and feelings when the event is brought to mind. You still remember what happened, but it is less upsetting. (as defined by: EMDR International Association)
